Best ways to level up and unlock armor in Halo: Reach on PC (1)

Halo: Reach on PC has finally arrived, and with it has come a new customization system that features battle pass-like progression in which you need to play the game to get experience and level up. Each time you gain a level, you'll get Season Points that you can then use to unlock armor pieces in a linear order.

There are 100 different reward packages players will have to get through in order to unlock everything in the game, and the rewards cost more and more Season Points as you approach that number. Because of this, the grind to get every piece of armor in the game will no doubt sound daunting to players. Thankfully, though, there are some strategies that you can employ in order to level up and get Season Points faster. Here are three tips that will help you make your way through the progression system.

From the beginning, you know the end

Though not perfect, Halo: Reach's PC port is well-done, and its quality should excite fans about the other Halo games coming to the platform in the future.

Play lots of Firefight Arcade

Firefight Arcade was the best way to get credits in the original Halo: Reach, and it's the best way to get experience in Halo: Reach on PC now. Because of how the game rewards kills (and multikills in particular), the versions of Firefight in Arcade Firefight are ideal for experience farming. You're given a copious amount of power weapons and can easily kill endless hordes of AI enemies, making it one of the simplest and silliest ways to boost your experience gains.

Play lots of Big Team Battle, too

If you're not a fan of Arcade Firefight or get bored of grinding it, another awesome way to level up faster is to play Big Team Battle. Because of the large 8v8 match size and the inclusion of more power weapons and vehicles than standard 4v4 modes, you can go on huge killing sprees if you play your cards right. When using vehicles, always stay on the move and stay out of the open as much as possible, using map terrain and patience to surprise groups of opponents with big firepower. The same applies for power weapons; try and get the drop on several people at once, or hit a crowded vehicle that won't see you coming.

Ultimately, play to stay alive

No matter what mode you're playing, it's important that you stay alive above all else as much as you can. Dying a lot doesn't bode well for your experience gains, and if you're patient and play defensively, opportunities for big plays will come. In particular, a great way to rack up kills while putting yourself in minimal harms way is to watch an area of the map that often has a lot of player traffic with a long-range weapon like the DMR, while peeking in and out of cover so you're not exposed. This allows you to take easy shots at foes who don't see where you are, and if they return fire, you can easily duck into cover.
